Sly’s professional career began in 1981, with First Light, an Island band. He went on to play with Slow Burn, featuring composer/guitarist Victor Magnani; Moment’s Notice, featuring Island native Reggie Washington; Tialo; New York Express; and the famous local group, The Force MDs. He led the jazz fusion band Swazz. International tours with names like Bootsie Collins and the James Brown Tribute band have taken him to Paris and Morocco, Egypt and Senegal.

With over 30 years of professional experience, Michael Morreale’s talent has taken him to prominent venues like Madison Square Garden, the Beacon Theater and more recently, The Cafe Carlyle and Birdland. He led the Staten Island Chamber Music Players Jazz Quartet for 25 years from 1983 to the group’s dissolution. He currently leads and composes for his own groups in the jazz idiom. His recordings include the Jazz Quintet “Straight Up” based in Santa Fe, NM, and recordings and tours with recording artist Joe Jackson.

For the Newhouse After Dark series, Carl Gallagher will perform a combination of new and/or reworked
original compositions in the Main Hall, some solo and some with a small combo. The show will focus on
electric and steel guitar, and will be all instrumental. The musical arrangements will be tailored
specifically to the aim of making best use of the natural sound of the room, and the show will be
recorded live to a 1/4” analog tape machine with the intent of being released freely online.
