Native Soil: Incidence and Homescapes
Mar 24 @ 10:00 am – Sep 23 @ 5:00 pm

Native Soil: Incidence and Homescapes is a large-scale retrospective of paintings by Sarah Yuster, spanning her thirty-year career.  Yuster’s work is subtle and intimate, sparking sentiments from viewers that explain her propensity to invoke a sense of “home.”  Yuster has had notable success as a portraitist, with works in two Smithsonian Museums and top university collections.

Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art (Buildings C&G)
Admission: Free

Admission to the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art (Buildings C & G) is $5 ($4 students/seniors).  Spring – Autumn hours are Thurs-Fri 12:00 – 7:00 PM and Sat – Sun 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

The following local businesses have provided generous support to Native Soil: Blue, Bayou and Beso Restaurants, Empire Outlets, Door to Door Realty, Snappy Solutions, Connie Lane Real Estate, and Victory State Bank.

Observing: Carl Schurz Park
Sep 7 @ 8:30 pm – 11:30 pm

The Amateur Astronomers Association of New York hosts observing sessions, free and open to the public, one Friday night each month from April through October at Carl Schurz Park in Manhattan. Carl Schurz Park is located along East End Avenue at the end of East 86th Street. The park has a lovely view of a lot of sky above the East River, Roosevelt Island, Queens, and the Queensborough and Triborough bridges.

We meet on the park esplanade (John Finley Walk), overlooking the East River. The 86th Street entrance to the park is the closest to where we set up, though that entrance requires climbing stairs to reach the esplanade. One may enter the park at many other points, including 87th or 88th streets, thereby avoiding the stairs.

We encourage anyone wishing to bring a telescope or binoculars to do so, but it is not required. You are more than welcome to look through ours.

PASS: Phys. Ed. B
Sep 8 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Physical Education (P.E.) is a social rite that profiles the prowess of youth, the abundance of strength. When a disabled body executes this social rite, it performs prowess differently, yet as jubilantly. Referencing the typical exercises and pillars of its namesake, Jerron Herman’s Phys. Ed. B will explore physical education through a revisionist lens and interpret unearthed movements from a hip, disabled body. Compounding on notions of youth and grace, Phys. Ed. B exercises both restraint and abandon, easily exhausting the performer until he decides otherwise. Phys. Ed. B examines the sublime in the mundane.
