Tattfoo Tan

Main Hall Gallery, on view March 2 – December 29, 2019

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 2, 2-4PM (Free)

Heal the Man in order to Heal the Land explores how spirituality manifests itself out of the connections between internal experience and the material world. Paul Campbell, Selected Works 1999-2019
Galleries 1 & 2, on view March 2 – May 5, 2019

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 2, 2-4PM (Free)

Gallery Talk & Tour: Sunday, May 5, 1-3PM

This exhibit surveys the work of NYC-based painter, Paul Campbell spanning from 1999-2019 with an emphasis on new work. Since 1998, Campbell has used remote control toys, spiky plastic balls, string, GPS tracks, and other non-conventional tools to create works that simultaneously pay homage to and parody the great abstract painters of the past. He combines non-traditional and traditional painting methods to create hybrid images. Although the works are abstract in appearance they often suggest elements of nature, fireworks, portals into some unknown world, and influences of other cultures and traditions. They represent movement and are a metaphor for connections that exist in our everyday lives.

Newhouse After Dark: Save the Dates!

Gallery Talk & Tour: Saturday, April 6, 2-4PM

In My Element is a combined show of two photographers who are separated in age by several decades but who both gravitate to capturing photos of four basic elements of earth, air, fire and water.  Gail Middleton can always be found in solitary locations, appreciating the happenstance of nature and trying to capture a moment in time to reflect the passing beauty.  Mike Shane is a kinetic searcher whose interaction with people and elements are breathtaking.  Their combined images will make you think, transport you to a place of beauty and wonderment or just capture you with an almost impossible combination of perceived movement.

Nagalokam – within tragedy lies the serpent of creation

Anjoli Chadha

Saturday, April 13, 2019

6pm reception + 7pm performance

Building G, Dance Studio G201

$10.00 admission, $8.00 Snug Harbor Members

Indian folklore, classical music, dance, theatre, and the Mahabharata all carry many archetypes and personalities in traditional stories. In Nagalokam, performer and choreographer Anjoli Chadha’s body carries in it a way of moving that she identifies as Indian through inheritance and culture. Her performance expresses how cultures use powerful entities to guide and protect them by channeling these entities or archetypes into the body, with dance as not just an expression of the soul but also a powerful tool for self-healing.

Private Inventory or No Health Insurance

Londs Reuter

Saturday, May 18, 2019

6pm reception + 7pm performance

Building G, Dance Studio G201

$10.00 admission, $8.00 Snug Harbor Members

Private Inventory or No Health Insurance is a thinking, moving, and writing-it-down practice that looks more at what choreographs us than what we choreograph. Private Inventory attempts to translate non-verbal embodied self-knowledge acquired through dancing into written record. From movement practices, we generate writings, surveys, anecdotes, and charts to map out the particularities and generalities of a dancing body. Private Inventory or No Health Insurance assumes that there is no normative body, there is no bell-curve of ability and disability, and that we’re all carving out unique ways of moving through the world at all times.
