Join prominent historian Patricia Salmon for a great afternoon! From a quiet farming community that was settled circa 1671, to a thriving business area and suburb, New Dorp has realized many changes. During a Power Point and discussion, we will look at the people, places and events that have influenced the community including the Revolutionary War, the Vanderbilt Family, sporting activities, the Moravian Church, and the beach front resorts and communities that thrived along the shoreline. Local landmarks to be highlighted include the Gustave Mayer House, the New Dorp Lighthouse, the historic Elm Tree Light, the Vanderbilt Cemetery and Mausoleum, The Lane theater and former historic structures that once stood in New Dorp. Pat Salmon History Funded by Steven Matteo, Corey Johnson and NYC Department of Small Business Services.
